Korean Air orders Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental

Boeing and Korean Air today announced that they have reached an agreement on the purchase of five 747-8I’s by Korean Air. The aircraft, with a list value of $1.5 billion, are the first of the model to be ordered by an Asian airline, and will join seven 747-8F cargo models the airline already has on order.

Korean Air is expecting to operate the aircraft from Korea to Europe and the Americas, and will incorporate it into a fleet that will include several A380 and Boeing 777-300ER aircraft (three 777-300ERs are already in service).  The spread of sizes between the three aircraft models should provide Korean Air with a great deal of flexibility for their long-haul flights.

With the order announced today, the total orders for Boeing’s 747-8 aircraft now stands at 110.
